After you declare and file for bankruptcy you are going to love the fact that your creditors will stop harassing you with nasty letters and phone calls. All collections will come to an end. The communications from lawyers, interest payments, fines and late fees will all go away.
For the first time you got into your financial predicament you may be able to breathe easy and get a good night’s sleep. You can start over again, and this is the greatest benefit. Be forewarned that declaring bankruptcy will not always delete every debt you have. There are some things that will not go away. For example if you have child support or alimony payments you are still responsible. The same goes for student loans or any type of government loan you have out. Fines for drunk driving are not wiped out. Don’t think you’ll get out of paying what you owe for federal, state or local taxes. Your other accounts might be cleaned up after the bankruptcy but not these ones. Keeping up with the payments on these accounts can help with credit repair after bankruptcy.
